Pediatric Compounding

Medication shouldn’t be a struggle – even for the youngest patients.

Compounds have proven extremely helpful for children, particularly those who have an inability to swallow large tablets or tolerate bitter liquids. In addition, since most medications are not labeled for pediatric populations, they are often not available in a suitable pediatric dosage form. Fortunately, we are here to help!

We can compound oral medications into pleasantly flavored suspensions, solutions, concentrates or lozenges. Flavoring often makes it much easier for children to swallow their medicine and less medicine is lost from the child spitting it out. Another option for administering pediatric medications is a compounded transdermal gel. Most medications can be compounded into transdermal gels that can easily be applied to an appropriate site, such as the child’s wrist, for absorption through the skin. For medications that need to be retained in the mouth for a prolonged period of time, compounded pediatric lollipops are an ideal alternative to “swish and swallow” medications.
